When I was young, I was always enticed by arts and crafts. When visiting older relatives it seemed the norm for them to keep me occupied with paint by numbers, basket weaving, or just a box of crayons and a sketch pad. I continued my artful quest in Junior and Senior High schools, but my passion for the ocean drew me in another direction
When I was young, I was always enticed by arts and crafts. When visiting older relatives it seemed the norm for them to keep me occupied with paint by numbers, basket weaving, or just a box of crayons and a sketch pad. I continued my artful quest in Junior and Senior High schools, but my passion for the ocean drew me in another direction wanting to follow in the footsteps of Jaques Cousteau. As is often the case starting a family drew me into more rooted occupations which culminated into teaching Language Arts for sixteen years. I helped youth learn to paint pictures with words. Upon retiring early I have finally weaved my way back onto the path of visual creativity. My aging body has made it a necessity to literally slow down to the point now where I can appreciate and focus on creative arts, namely painting.
Presently, my preferred medium is oil painting, preferably painting in plein air (outdoors). I am exploring watercolor and acrylic media as I continue to learn and focus on this one craft of painting.
Light and color are what inspires me the most. Light was God’s first creative act, and without Light I am locked in the doldrums. Man’s artificial light just doesn’t cut it for me. I’ve got to have all the windows open in any room I’m in. Of course, I prefer to be outside enshrouded in the life-giving source. That is where the colors of

I’ve got to have all the windows open in any room I’m in. Of course, I prefer to be outside enshrouded in the life-giving source. That is where the colors of His creation explode. I can only attempt to create a moment captured in a landscape or seascape that barely compares with His unfolding creative story that we participate in and yet often take for granted each day.
